Ashtabula OH — Cats losing home — Donations needed
Please spread the word, and help if you can!
Ashtabula Animal Advocates is trying to help a local family who needs
to get rid of their animals due to divorce and the loss of their home.
We have already placed the dogs, but cats, as you know, are always a
challenge. An area rescuer has generously offered to board some of
the cats and find them homes, but Ashtabula Animal Advocates needs to
get them vetted and pay a surrender fee to the farm that some of the
cats will be going to. The total amount we need to raise is $563.12
If you are able to donate even a little it would be so helpful.
Please send donations to ashtabulaanimaladvocates@
(gmail.com)
I will also be donating the proceeds for all sales in my Etsy shop
through this weekend to this cause: http://fashionsplatter.etsy.
Thanks for all you do to help the animals!

A great item for a great cause!

Wonderful Scottish artist Annette Tait from Dragon House of Yuen has donated one of her beautiful Arabella bags to the Buckeye House Rabbit Society. This is a great group that does so much to help Ohio bunnies in need. Buy some raffle tickets to support a great cause and take a chance at winning this beautiful bag!

This weekend marked my one year anniversary of selling on Etsy. And I’ve sold, yeah, five things. And while I’m very grateful for those five sales, most of which were to benefit APL animals in urgent need, I would like to have a few more! I am supposed to be supporting our bunny sanctuary with my shop! So, today begins the complete relaunch. I have some exciting new products I am working on. I have some fun promotional ideas. I’ll be doing a complete makeover with all new pics. And I’ll be keeping things up to date. I’m very excited! I will be blogging at least once a day during the whole process, so stay tuned and you might even learn some stuff! :)

From Nicole http://latejuly.etsy.com and Dawn http://fashionsplatter.etsy.com
(thanks so much to Marjorie http://whskr.etsy.com for putting ths post together for us!)
These are stories of hopes and dreams. Gracie is a charming and sweet
2 year old Shar-pei mix found as a stray in the worst possible
condition. Pumpkin is a cat found shot with a brutal arrow, a story
that shocked many of us.
I’ll be brief, but here’s the outline about both our fundraising
aims. Gracie has skin issues that have taken time and a lot of money
to heal, she needs vital remedial training to give her the confidence
to mix with other dogs before she takes that crucial step to the new
forever home waiting for her. Pumpkin needs help with medication and
surgery fees after his desperate injury.
Gracie needs $250 initially to engage a trainer to help plus another
$200 to guarantee her the training to be able to walk out into the
world with her head held high - a totally confident young dog.
Pumpkin’s needs are still being assessed but his operation costs and
medication will need to be met, to ensure he remains free from
infection after his amputation. A three legged cat can do just fine,
thank you!
Two among many, we know, but we can make a difference here. The following Etsy
sellers have offered items for sale to help both Pumpkin and Gracie.
Their generosity is overwhelming, and we are grateful. Please check
out the following sellers and items.

More items to benefit Pumpkin!
I’ve decided for the next week, or until we get Pumpkin’s vet bills paid, to donate all proceeds from my Etsy shop (except for one item which is already designated for Gracie) to Pumpkin’s care. An example of one of my items:
Also, LolaLynn has relisted her beautiful ACEO which sold. All proceeds go to Pumpkin!
And bluewhimsy has this gorgeous pillow available. 50% of proceeds go to Pumpkin!
DragonRags has this delicious looking pin available, with all proceeds to Pumpkin:
Midnightrabbits has this scary (or is that scardy?) cat bag available. Yep, all proceeds to Pumpkin!
Also check out these great shops, all of which are giving a percentage of sales to Pumpkin!
A great way to do some holiday shopping (or just buy something fun for yourself!) while helping a great, great cause! Thanks so much to team EFA and everyone else who is working so hard to help Pumpkin :)
Filed under pumpkin, Etsy | Comments (2)Morning update on Pumpkin
I just got an update on Pumpkin. He made it through the night. He is reportedly very hungry for affection and *food*! Both of which are excellent signs.
He was featured in the local paper and on a Cleveland news station this morning:
Although both stories indicate the leg might be saved, they must have gone to print earlier in the day yesterday. I confirmed today that his leg will be amputated…apparently the bone is completely shattered. For anyone who’s never had the humbling experience of watching an animal learn to survive with a missing leg, it’s actually quite amazing how quickly they adjust. So assuming Pumpkin makes it through his current ordeal he will be able to live a very fulfilling life as a tripod. We even have a great home lined up for him if everything works out!
I was incorrect however when I said the leg would be removed today. It *may* be if they are unable to clear out the remaining maggots from the wound any other way, but ideally he will have a chance to regain his strength for a few days before having to undergo further surgery.
We’re so grateful for all the donations that we’ve received for Pumpkin’s care. At this point there is no way to say what his expenses will be. Any funds that are donated and not used for Pumpkin will be used for the next APL animal in desperate need…unfortunately there is always a next animal in desperate need.
I also wanted to mention that proceeds from all items in my Etsy shop (with the exception of one that was already going to a dog in need) will be going to Pumpkin’s care: http://fashionsplatter.etsy.com
Please also watch my blog at http://withoutqualification.com for an updated list of other Etsians who have items for sale for Pumpkin. It’s a great way to do some holiday shopping while helping to save an animal in need!
Donations can continue to be sent via PayPal to ashtabulaanimaladvocates@gmail.com (gmail.com) or via this donation button:
or called in to Country Doctor vet clinic at 440.576.9440
Disturbingly, the vet believes the Pumpkin was shot intentionally, since the person shooting would have had to be above the cat…like in a tree. My gosh.
Thanks *so* much to everyone who has helped Pumpkin to get the care he deserves. I will continue to post updates at http://ashtabulaapl.blogspot.com and http://withoutqualification.com
Thanks!

From my Etsy shop. Collaged book cover pendant. $12
Filed under fashionsplatter, Etsy | Comment (0)sewn collage = fun
Okay, I’m just a little too obsessed with this collage I just made. I’m stuck on the idea of words as stitches and I just want to sew with words…create with words in other ways besides writing. I’ve been experimenting with sewn collage techniques, and I’m really happy with what I’ve come up with. Looks like I’m going to be sewing a lot of paper!
Filed under fashionsplatter, Etsy | Comment (0)I finally listed a new item!
Finally listed something new in my Etsy shop. This pendant is a favorite of mine b/c it reads “I was the first one” but right above the text is the ghost of a previous poem. Ah, deception. Ah, irony. Made from the cover of a Harlequin romance novel. I really have fun making these and need to make more!
Filed under fashionsplatter, Etsy | Comment (0)On Slowing Down
Ahhh, the irony. I wrote the post below a couple weeks ago, but haven’t had time to post b/c I’ve been so involved with the APL! I made the decision consciously, though, to help out more for a few more weeks until the new director started, with the awareness and understanding that it would be temporary. And that temporary period is now over. It’s taken me a few days to decompress after the chaotic weekend, but now I’m recommitting myself to this new lifestyle…..
****************
On Slowing Down
We moved out to the country two and a half years ago. My dreams included having lots of time to care for animals, and lots of time to be work on creative pursuits. A simpler life, although I’m not sure I knew at the time what that meant. I’d been stuck for so long in the go-go-go cycle, the only time I was able to “slow down” is when I’d get slammed with a depressive episode and had no other choice. Moving to the country was supposed to fix that.
Well, it didn’t. The last several years have been some of the most stressful of my life, and I’ve been hit with nasty depressions almost as often as when we lived in the city. Dave and I routinely work in front of computers in separate areas of the house from the time we get up early until the time we crash in front of the the TV around midnight to scarf down some dinner and fall asleep on the couch. Not exactly the lifestyle I had in mind.
Last week I guess I reached my breaking point. To get some clarity I took a drive down to the Ohio River by myself. For some reason I find that that river really brings me peace. While I was there I looked at the houses for sale and dreamed of a different life, one where I would spend my days in a studio with river views, working on crafting and building a little business that would support our family in a small, sustainable way. But something about the views that day changed me, the large low rolling clouds continually altering the quality of the light. When I got home I realized, river or not, that where I live is just as beautiful. Low hills, long views, and green green green. And plenty of land to carve out a life right here, if I can tear myself out of the stress mentality.
And I think I can. Since my river trip that day I’ve decided that I belong right here, with occasional river trips to help my focus. The fact is, if I can’t routinely appreciate the beauty I have here, I’m not going to appreciate the river either. I’m not ready for the river. Besides, I have a studio with foil butterfly wallpaper! How many crafters can say that?
So, I’ve recommitted to a slower style of life. This will mean doing less with the APL for now. I will continue to focus on finding rescue for the special needs animals, but the hours and days in front of the computer are going to stop. If I felt they were working, I would continue to make that sacrifice. But to spend all week in panic mode to get out 11 dogs over the weekend, only to have 11 new dogs come in in one day, that system is not working. I am committed to *changing* that system, but I can’t do it while I am so embroiled in it. I need some perspective. And I also need to set us up a lifestyle here at home, which I should have done *before* I threw myself head first into rescue.
I am committed now to the lifestyle we wanted when we moved out here. Tasks for the recent future involve creating a more frugal budget, having an *enormous* garage sale and giving lots of stuff away, doing lots of research on gardening so as to make the most of what is left of this growing season and get a jump on the next, learning a few more useful crafts (rag rugs are next!), trying to get involved in some sort of barter economy, and working with the bunnies to create more enriching lives for them. Also, Etsy Etsy Etsy…putting time into my existing shop and getting my vintage shop open, promoting like crazy, and participating in teams. Living out here I really desire a sense of community with fellow artists…but that’s a whole other post!
